Fascism in Italy

Introduction:
Our next unit will take a look at our first single party state, Fascist Italy.  We will explore the rise and rule of Benito Mussolini and explore how conservative authoritarianism shaped the first half of the 20th Century.  We will also explore Italy's foreign policy's successes and failures as part 1 of our case studies for Paper 1.  The unit will be driven by the below key questions:

Mussolini's Italy
1. How did Mussolini become popular and come to power in 1922?
2. How did Mussolini transform Italy into a single party dictatorship by 1927?
3. What were the domestic policies of Mussolini and how did they embody the ideology of fascism?
4. What were the driving forces of the Italian economy and to what extent was Mussolini successful in achieving his goals?
5. What was the society that the National Fascist Party attempted to create in Italy and how did they use propaganda and other government organs to achieve? To what extent were they successful in transforming the Italian people into their vision?
6. What were the foreign policy objectives of Mussolini and how did they reflect his domestic objectives and vice versa?
7. To what extent had Mussolini established a totalitarian state in Italy by 1939?

Unit Calendar

The Calendar outlines the plan for our day to day in class activities and the homework that will be assigned. The expectation is that students complete all homework assignments for the next lesson unless otherwise indicated on the calendar. While we would like this to be set in stone, unforeseen events and intriguing tangents might change the plan so if you are ever in doubt on what is due and when, please ask
